Debora Umbelino is 23 years-old and is best known by the stage name of Surma. She was born and raised in the small village of Vale Do Horto, where she started several adventures with musical projects early on in her youth. In 2015 she kicked off her solo project Surma, quickly getting a national tour off the ground and attracting the attention of the public and press. In between touring she attended the Jazz course at Hot Club, specializing in double bass and voice, and also ventured into audiovisual post production.
Her debut album “Antwerpen" came out at the end of 2017, and earned widespread acclaim that placed her at the forefront of the local music scene. Press outlets such as Expresso, Público, Blitz or Antena 3 voted Surma as one of the best artists of the year and the Portuguese Authors Society named "Hemma" the best song of 2017. In the last two years, she has performed live more than 200 times and in 16 countries.
